The explosion of the BP oil rig Deepwater Horizon may turn out to be the worst man made ecological disaster in our nation's history. To make matters worse, this tragedy has not only taken place in an area threatened by a growing dead zone caused by chemical run off from the Mississippi river, but one that is still recovering from another man made catastrophe, the levy failures and poor response during Hurricane Katrina. How much more can this region take? This blog will document my trip south to help in the recovery efforts as millions of gallons of oil reach land and threaten not only wildlife, but human health and the economy.
